In most cases IT Governance Maturity Models establish where an organization is positioned
within accepted standards. The information gathered in developing these models assists
with a prototype definition of the best suited governance structures, processes and
mechanisms.
For example, Balanced Scorecards may be prepared to enable the creation of an IT Strategic Planning Maturity Model. This model describes
the strategic fit and functional integration between Business and IT. It also
provides the context in which IT Governance requirements are defined and
corresponding interface processes are implemented.
At the outset strategically selected processes may be implemented manually, these however,
should be automated as Governance develops. The most advanced automated techniques, available in the IT marketplace,
will be evaluated and harnessed whenever viable e.g. by using
selected functionality from Mercury's Governance portfolio:-
Strategic alignment is an on going process. Once established the
competitive advantage resulting from IT investment may be periodically
presented to your value stakeholders to demonstrate its effectiveness.
However, it is important to recognise that success is contingent upon a
variety of sometimes conflicting internal and external factors. Determining
the optimum approach is therefore complex and often requires senior level
management involvement.
For clients seeking new IT systems a five phase approach is offered, each phase
(see above) being designed to enable effective IT Governance.
