ICL
Germany, Organisations Systeme Gmbh and the Berlin Firebrigade
entered into a collaboration to develop an Incident Financial
Accounting System. ICL selected a ITG consultant
to provide project support and resolve issues in Berlin.
A briefing was given at ICL (01) Nuremberg and initial analysis followed before being flown to Berlin for a meeting at Firebrigade headquaters
in Spandau. Soon after introductions, this meeting
became hostile prompting the consultant to take the initiative.
Organizing
the meeting to allow for German / English translation the consultant
offered to explain the ICL design methodology, in stages,
with the instruction that each new stage should be 100% understood
before progressing to the next stage. A segment of the design
process described in English was followed by its translation
in German. This format worked, allowing a more relaxed atmosphere
to prevail and the senior members present to retire in confidence.
Having
understood the concepts it was necessary to apply the design
technique to an initial process flow model (already prepared
by firebrigade analysts) and to develop the corresponding
entity model. The Berliner Feuerwehr made specific requests to ICL Germany for our particular consultant to continue
providing support until the design process was completed.
This allowed additional usage analysis and capacity
planning providing target hardware configuration factors e.g.
terminal population, storage performance indicators (tph)
and main memory.
